The following is a description of the mural proposed for the south wall of the Bagdad Cafe at 16th and Market Sts. The overall theme of the mural is: HOPE FOR THE WORLD CURE, visually expressing the impact the AIDS crisis has had on all communities, especially the Gay & Lesbian community of San Francisco and the Castro District where the mural is located. The description is compiled from the artists' own words, all but two of whom have been directly affected by HIV/AIDS.
To raise public awareness of art works, both visual and performing, that
involve HIV/AIDS as themes. Through doing this it is hoped that not only
will the public be made aware of the facets and psychological difficulties
of living with HIV/AIDS, but also that artists will view each other's works
and make national and international connections.
